Yankees off to a good start on a tough six-game road trip
July 08, 2009 by Marc Jerbs

The resurgent Yankees showed that their win against low tier teams was not a fluke in the last two weeks. In the first game of their tough six-game road trip they routed the Minnesota Twins. These Yankees want to continue their resurgence and are planning to snatch the AL East lead against their rival Red Sox. It would be tough if they would stumble against the Twins and Angels before the All-Star break. The Yankees are only a game behind the Red Sox in the AL East.

These Yankees have turned their season around after a slow start and were dealt by injuries with the likes of Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada. Since these two players returned, the Yankees pitchers were almost unhittable and their batters where spraying balls all over the field. I guess they are not called the Bronx Bombers as they piled up their scores with runs every single game. But they don't do it offensively right away, they let their pitchers shutdown the opponents' lineup before they unleash their torrent offense. It is proven that great pitching is a key to a teams' success while timely hitting is just secondary.

The Minnesota Twins wants some payback after absorbing a 4-game sweep at the Yankees Stadium during their first meeting of the season. But the Twins might wait for the next game to finally nail their first win against the Yankees. They really want to get over the hump and stop their losing skid against one of the AL East powerhouse team.

Tomorrow, Glen Perkins is the starting pitcher for the Twins while Yankees will counter with AJ Burnett. It seems that the sports book handicappers are putting a lot of premium on the Yankees to win again over the Twins.
