Trentham Racecourse History

This track has a long history in Wellington, New Zealand as race meetings have been held here since 1840.

The Jockey Club was first created in 1841 but struggled in its early years.

However, the Club was reformed in 1865 and was later named the Wellington Racing Club in 1879.

The history of the Wellington Cup dates back to 1874 and was first won by Castaway.

It's one of the older races held in all of New Zealand. 100 years after the Cup was formed, it was moved to its current distance of 3200 metres.
