153rd Melbourne Cup Carnival: Melbourne Cup
November 05, 2013 by Marc Jerbs

On Tuesday, the Victoria Racing Club will host the 153rd running of the Melbourne Cup at the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia. It is a 3,200 metres race for three year olds and over. The Melbourne Cup is part of a 10-race event of the day and will start at 3PM local time.

A total of 24 thoroughbreds from all over the world will battle it out for a chance to win the A$6.2 million prize money and an 18-carat solid gold Hardy Brothers trophy valued at A$175,000.

2012 winner Green Moon and 2011 winner Dunaden will participate in the Melbourne Cup as both horses will try to win their 2nd Melbourne Cup title. Gai Waterhouse's trained Fiorente is also in the field. Fiorente finished second behind Green Moon last year.

The horse race handicappers have installed Fiorente as the favorite to win the Emirates Melbourne Cup. Sea Moon, Dandino, Mount Athos, Hawkspur and Verema are the horses that could give Fiorente a fierce challenge.
