2013 ATP/WTA Grand Slam: Australian Open

Last Monday, the Rod Laver Arena opened the 1st ATP/WTA Grand Slam for 2013, the Australian Open. The tournament will run from Jan 14-27 and the first game of each day usually starts at 11AM Australian time.

Last year, Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka claimed the singles title. Both players will defend their titles and received the top seeding in the tournament.

Almost all of the top men and women players in the world have breezed through their respective opponents in the first two days of competition. Expect the matches to be competitive as it enters the second round until if reaches the finals for both men's and women's singles competition.

For Wednesday, top seed and World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will play USA's youngster Ryan Harrison, 8th seed Janko Tipsaveric will meet Slovak Lukas Lacko and 22nd seed Fernando Verdasco will face Belgian Xavier Malisse.

In the women's singles event, 2nd seed Maria Sharapova will go up against Japan's Misaki Doi, Taipei's Yung-Jan Chan will meet 13th seed Ana Ivanovic and American Venus Williams will face France's Alize Cornet.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Novak Djokovic, Janko Tipsaveric, Fernando Verdasco, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Venus Williams as the favorites to win their respective 2nd round matches.
