June 11, 2014 by Marc Jerbs

On Thursday, the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) will host the 2014 World Cup from June 12 up to July 13. Powerhouse Brazil is the host nation of this year's World Cup.

The top 32 national teams from all over the world will compete to win and hoist the Jules Rimet Trophy. Brazil has won the World Cup five times. They won it in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002.

The second multi-winner nation is Italy. They won it four times and last held the Jules Rimet Trophy last 2006. Germany has 3 wins while Argentina and Uruguay has 2 wins each.

France, England and defending champion Spain each won the World Cup once. Spain will join Netherland, Chile and Australia in Group B. The opening match of the tournament will feature a Group A fixture between Brazil and Croatia. Game time is set at 5:00PM local time and will be played at Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Brazil as the favorite to win the 2014 World Cup. Argentina, Spain and Germany are the other contenders that could derail Brazil's chances.
