2016 AFL Finals Week 1: Geelong Cats vs. Hawthorn Hawks
September 08, 2016 by Marc Jerbs

On Friday, the 2nd ranked Geelong Cats will face 3rd ranked and defending AFL champion Hawthorn Hawks in Week 1 of the AFL Finals series. Game time is set at 7:50PM AEST at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

AFL's storied rivalries will be in full display when Geelong and Hawthorn meets again after their season-opening clash last March. However, their 2nd meeting will have a bigger stake on the line. The winner moves in the preliminary finals while the loser will be on the road and will face the winner between West Coast Eagles and Western Bulldogs.

Geelong finished the season with 7 straight wins to claim a top-2 finish in the table while Hawthorn scored a thrilling one-point come from behind win over Collingwood and was able to make a last gasp entry into the top-4.

Hawthorn will try claim its 14th AFL title in the club's history and are poised to win their 4th straight AFL crown since 2013. The Hawks may have tumbled in their last four games but the reigning champions are proven to win under extreme pressure and when the stakes are high.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Geelong Cats as the favorite to win over the Hawthorn Hawks on Friday night.
