2016 Triple Crown:142nd Kentucky DerbyMay 05, 2015 by Marc Jerbs

On Saturday, the 142nd Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. This is the first leg of the 2016 Triple Crown and is followed by Preakness States and then the Belmont Stakes.

The Grade 1 race is exclusive for three-year old thoroughbreds and will cover a total race distance of one and quarter miles of Churchill Downs. The Kentucky Derby is also known as "The Run for the Roses" since the winning horse will be draped by a blanket of roses.

A full field of 20 horses will vie to win the first leg of the Triple Crown and the winner have chance to duplicate 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. The sportsbook handicappers have installed undefeated Nyquist as the horse to beat in the Kentucky Derby.
