Victoria Racing Club Spring Carnival: 2016 Victoria Derby
October 27, 2016 by Marc Jerbs

On Saturday, the Victoria Racing Club will host the Victoria Derby at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia. The Victoria Derby is a Group 1 horse race for three year old held under set weight conditions and will cover a total race distance of 2,500 meters.

The Victoria Derby is one of the oldest races in Australia's horse racing history. The first race was held in 1855 and as it progresses every year new milestones are also achieved. In 2005, Clare Lindop was the first female jockey to ride in the Victoria Derby and became the first female to win the race in 2008.

This year's Victoria Derby is slated as the 7th race on Saturday and race time is set at 3:50PM local time. A 20-horse field led by top notch horses such as Sacred Elixir, So Si Bon, Swear and Prized Icon have all qualified in the race.

The horse race handicappers have installed Sacred Elixir as the horse to beat on Saturday's Victoria Derby at Flemington Racecourse.
