2017 PGA/European Tour: The 146th Open Championship
(British Open)
July 20, 2017 by Marc Jerbs

The Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England will host the 146th edition of The Open Championship from July 20 to 23. The Open Championship, which is also known as the British Open is the 3rd major championship this season co-sanctioned by the PGA and European Tour.

The Open Championship is the oldest among golf's 4 major championships. Last year, Henrik Stenson won his first major title by winning the 145th Open Championship after posting an overall score of 264 (-20) and set a record for the lowest score in any major tournament.

A full field of 156 players will tee off in Thursday's opening round. However, half of it may not contend in the 4-day tournament. The tee times of each golfer is a huge factor in The Open Championship. The weather especially the strong winds will play a major role in determining the winner on Sunday.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler as co-favorites to win the Open Championship on Sunday. Extra playoff holes might be in the offing if these two golfers will be tied after 72-holes.
