May 18, 2017 by Marc Jerbs

On Saturday, the Doomben Racecourse in Brisbane, Australia will host the Doomben Cup during the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival. It is a Group I race for horses three years old and older which is run under weight for age conditions.

The Doomben Cup race will cover a total race distance of 2,000 meters of the turf-surfaced Doomben Racecourse. A total of 18 horse will vie for the Doomben Cup race this weekend. Local horse and Toowoomba Cup winner Cylinder Beach will try to end a 34-year winless drought for Brisbane horses in the Doomben Cup. Lord Seaman was the last local horse who won the Cup in 1983.

Cylinder Beach will face a tough competitor in the presence of It's Somewhat. It's Somewhat was the winner in last week's Hollindale Stakes as well as the Doncaster Mile. Trainer Darren Weir will field Star Exhibit, Amelie's Star and Articus. Renowned trainer Chris Waller will also have multiple horses competing in the Doomben Cup. He will have Preferment, Vanbrugh and McCreery race this coming Saturday.

The horse race handicappers have installed It's Somewhat as the horse to beat on Saturday's Doomben Cup in the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival at the Doomben Racecourse.
