On Saturday, the Flemington Racecourse will host the Emirates Stakes Day in the final day of the Melbourne Racing Carnival. The Emirates Stakes is the much-awaited race of the day as it is a Group 1 race for three year olds and older run under weight for age conditions. It is the 8th race of the day and will cover a total race distance of 2000 meters. Post time is set at 4:55PM AEST.
This race has attracted 15-runners but only 14 will be available to participate since Sir Isaac Newton was scratched for the weekend's race. The total prize money set for the Emirates Stakes is A$2 million. Charlie Appleby-trained and Cranbourne Cup winner Folkswood will be competing in this race. Folkswood was impressive by placing 3rd in the Cox Plate against eventual winner Winx.
Folkswood will have stiff competition as Cliff's Edge, It's Somewhat and Tom Melbourne during the race.
Another Group 1 race to look into is the 7th race Darley Classic. This is a 1200 meter sprint race for three year olds and older with weight for age conditions. Highly rated sprinter Chautauqua will run in this race but Redzel and Redkirk Warrior could make the race tougher for Chautauqua.
The sportsbook handicappers have installed Folkswood as the horse to beat on Saturday's Emirates Stakes.
