Kennedy Oaks Day: 2017 Kennedy Oaks November 07, 2017 by Marc Jerbs

The race festivities continue at the Flemington Racecourse after the Melbourne Cup Day. On Thursday, the Victoria Racing Club will host the Kennedy Oaks, the 8th race of the Kennedy Oaks Day. Post time is set at 2PM AEST.

The Kennedy Oaks is a Group 1 race for three year old fillies that will run under set weight conditions of 55 ½ kgs. It will cover a total race distance of 2,500 meters of the turf-surfaced racecourse. The total purse for the race is set at A$1 million.

The Kennedy Oaks has attracted 12 runners in total. Two horses loom as strong contenders in the race, it's a toss-up between Aloisia and Pinot. Aloisia is an Aaron Purcell-trained filly and was impressive in its last two wins at the Thousand Guineas and The Vase. Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott-trained Pinot is a very tough horse as well. Pinot has won consecutive win at 1800 meters in Flemington and won the Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield.

A total of 9 races are scheduled for day in order to spice up and build anticipation of the Kennedy Oaks. Six of which are minor race and two Group 3 races, the TCL TV Stakes and Kennedy Plate. The TCL TV Stakes will feature sprinters Echo Effect, Ulmann and Hellova Street. All three horses have performed well in their last race.

The Kennedy Plate is the closing race for the Kennedy Oaks day. It is for three year old fillies with set weight of 55 kg. Smart Coupe who won in her debut race will once again look for a strong speed race as she is set to compete against Debonairly, Demerara and I Am Excited.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Aloisia as the horse to beat on Thursday's Kennedy Oaks.
