2013 World Baseball Classic

The 2013 World Baseball Classic opened last March 2 and will last until March 19. The World Baseball Classic is an international baseball tournament which features the best players all over the world competing for their home countries.

There are 16 teams that will participate in this tournament. They were divided into 4 pools and will have a round robin format in the first round of competition. Two-time champion Japan will be the team to beat again this year.

Japan will head Pool A together with China, Cuba and Brazil. In Pool B, Australia joins Chinese Taipei, Korea and Netherlands. Pool C will feature Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Spain and Venezuela. United States was bracketed in Pool D with Canada, Italy and Mexico.

United States first round match is scheduled on March 8 against Mexico. Two other games will also be played on Friday, Canada versus Italy and Spain against Puerto Rico.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Team USA as the favorite to win its first World Baseball Classic title. Japan and Dominican Republic are their main competitors in this tournament.
