2011 NFL Sunday Night Football:Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia EaglesSeptember 14, 2010 by Marc Jerbs

On Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons hosts the Philadelphia Eagles for the 2011 home opener at the Georgia Dome. This is the 27th time the two teams have met in the regular season.

The Falcons started the season on the road against the Chicago Bears in Week 1. However, it was a game that they need to forget and move after absorbing a 30-12 rout against the Bears. With their season opener at home this Sunday, expect a rejuvenated Falcons at the Georgia Dome.

Since 2008, under coach Mike Smith the Falcons have been one of the NFL's best teams at home compiling a 20-4 home record, an impressive .833 winning percentage. Despite their road loss, the Falcons have witness the superb leadership of QB Matt Ryan, the ground game of RB Michael Turner and the timely sacks of DE John Abraham. Their Week 1 loss is only a minor setback as they try to defend their NFC South title this season.

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a 31-13 road win against the St. Louis Rams. The Eagles will have two consecutive road games before they open their season at home on September 25 against the NY Giants.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick will make his return for the second time after playing for the Falcons for six seasons. Falcons' fans surely miss Michael Vicks' scintillating plays but he's no longer on their team. He's now a mark man since Vick have improved his QB leadership and repertoire in the Seahawks uniform.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the Phildelphia Eagles as a 2.5-point favorite to beat the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night. This game could turn into a slugfest due to each team superb offensive prowess.
