The 2012 French Open started last May 22 and is officially hosted at Roland-Garros in Paris, France. Most of the top men's and women's tennis player have advance onto the second round match.

Among the prominent players who were ousted in the first round were US players Andy Roddick and Serena Williams. Top seed Novak Djokovic advanced into the second round by defeating Potito Starace 7-6, 6-3, 6-1. Novak will meet Blaz Kavcic in his second round match.

Six time and defending French Open champion Rafael Nadal was also off to a good start. In his first round match, he easily defeated Simone Bolelli in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1. His second round opponent will be Denis Istomin.

In the women's side, world No.1 Victoria Azarenka started her French Open campaign with a shaky outing against Alberta Brianti. She eventually won the game after losing the 1st set, 6-7, 6-4 and 6-2.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Rafael Nadal as the favorite to earn his 7th French Open title. However, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are his main challenger in this tournament. At the women's side, world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka is heavily favored to win her 1st French Open title. Maria Sharapova, Na Li and Samantha Stosur are her main oppenents for the French Open title.
