Match Play ChampionshipFebruary 22, 2012 by Marc Jerbs

On Wednesday, the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Marana, Arizona will host the prestigious WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Sixty top golfers all over the world will compete in a match play format and only one would emerge as winner.

The event will have 4 brackets in the first round until it trims down the field to two golfers that will meet in the championship on Sunday. Defending champion Luke Donald is the top seed in the Jones bracket. Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are the other top seed in their respective brackets.

Tiger Woods is seeded 5th in the Snead bracket and will play on 12th seed Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano. Woods a three-time Match Play winner does not take his opponent lightly since anything can happen in a match play event.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Rory McIlroy as the favorite to win the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship title. Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood are among the possible golfers that could challenge McIlroy in the one-on-one championship on Sunday.
