2012 PGA Tour: The Open Championship
July 18, 2012 by Marc Jerbs

On Thursday, the Open Championship will be held at the Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in St. Annes, England. This is the third major event of the PGA Tour this year.

Tiger Woods will begin his pursuit of a 4th Claret jug at 9:42am local time and he's grouped with Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose. The last time he won the Open Championship was in 2006 at the Royal Liverpool. He won his two Claret jugs at St. Andrews in 2000 and 2005.

Defending champion Darren Clarke was grouped with 2002 Open champion Ernie Els and John Deere Classic winner Zach Johnson. This group's tee time is set at 9:09am local time. Masters' champion Bubba Watson will play in the 1st round with Lee Westwood and Yoshinori Fujimoto.

World No. 1 Luke Donald will join the group of Phil Mickelson and Geoff Ogilvy. Another intriguing group is the trio of 2011 US Open champion Rory McIlroy, 2010 Open champion Louis Oosthuizen and 2011 PGA champion Keegan Bradley. Expect some fireworks within these three golfers as they jostle with each other in the 1st round of the Open Championship.

The golf handicappers have installed Tiger Woods as the favorite to win the Open Championship and his 15th major title. Expect the likes of Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy to give Woods a lot of pressure in his pursuit of greatness.
