June 01, 2017 by Marc Jerbs

The Stade Roland-Garros in Paris, France will host the 116th French Open from May 22 up to June 11, 2017. The French Open is the 2nd major championship event of the four annual Grand Slam tournaments.

It is the only major tournament held on clay and dubbed as the most physically demanding event due to the slow-playing surface which requires stamina and determination to win the title. Defending champion Novak Djokovic has stamped his way into the 3rd round as well as 9-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal in the Men's Singles competition.

In the Women's Singles competition, three-time French Open champion Serena Williams is out for this season as she is expecting her first child with fiancé Alexis Ohanian. Top seed Angelique Kerber crushed out in the 1st round which led to a wide open race for the Women's Singles championship title.

On Thursday, 20th seed Barbora Strycova will open the 2nd round match against Alize Cornet at 11AM local time at Philippe-Chatrier Court while top seed Andy Murray will face Slovak Martin Klizan at the Suzanne-Lenglen Court.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Rafael Nadal and Simona Halep as the favorites to win the French Open in their respective single's competition.
