NBA East vs. West Matchup:San Antonio Spurs vs.
Atlanta HawksApril 05, 2009 by Marc Jerbs

On Tuesday, the Atlanta Hawks plays the San Antonio Spurs at Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. Game time is set at 7 PM ET. Both teams are poised to improve their playoff positions as the regular season will end on April 13.

The San Antonio Spurs managed to end their longest losing streak in 14 years by beating the Phoenix Suns. They must now build on that win as the playoff is just around the corner.

During the Spurs' losing streak, the LA Lakers were able to trim down Spurs' 7-game lead for the top seed in the Western Conference to 2 ½.

Also, they are in danger of losing their best NBA record to the Chicago Bulls who is just 1 ½ games behind.

The Spurs must play hard and win their remaining games in order to end on at the top at the Western Conference and also hold the home court advantage throughout the playoffs. A win over the Atlanta Hawks would end the Spurs road struggles against playoff bound East teams. Currently, they are 0-6 against playoff bound East teams.

The Hawks are in 5th place in the East playoff bound teams. They have 5 games remaining in their schedule, and hope to catch the Orlando Magic who is at 4th place. However, they would play three top tier teams such as the Spurs, Pacers and Heat in their schedule.

No matter happens in their remaining games they Hawks are playoff bound this season.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed the San Antonio Spurs as the favorite to beat the Atlanta Hawks. However, if the Spurs are affected by their losing record on the road against East teams, then the Hawks have a shot to beat the Spurs.
