2016 St. Leger Festival: St. Leger Stakes

On Saturday, the Doncaster Racecourse in Doncaster, England will host the St. Leger Stakes. The St. Leger Stakes is Group 1 flat horse race open for three year old colts and fillies. It will cover a total race distance of 2,937 meters of the racecourse.

The St. Leger Stakes is the penultimate race of the four-day St. Leger Festival. A total of £700,000 prize money is at stakes with the winner taking home £396,970 and trophy. Thirteen horse have qualified in the longest and oldest race flat horse race in England.

Great Voltigeur Stakes winner Idaho is the mark horse in the St. Leger Stakes. Trainer Aidan O'Brien is not taking his chances as he is keen on fielding quality horses that could disrupt Idaho. He is expected to let loose Curragh Cup winner Sword Fighter as well as other stablemates Houseofparliament, Kellstorm, The Major General, Triplicate and Unicorn to challenge Idaho throughout the race.

The sportsbook handicappers have installed Idaho as the odds on favorite to win the St. Leger Stakes on Saturday noon.
